I love detours. It can be frustrating having to go out of your way when a road is blocked but when it happens to me I like to pop my head up out of its shell and see what is new to my field of vision.
I’ve found many hidden roads, fascinating buildings, paths of little use and other wonders to improve my daily path.
On a recent journey north I found myself in one of the greatest places on earth.
Door County isn’t just a vacation spot or place to get away, it has a magic in the air. It has an energy that lifts all the grime of daily life away as soon as you cross the bridge that connects the northern most peninsula to the rest of Wisconsin.
You have to experience the phenomenon yourself to truly understand its power. There are few places I’ve been to that can change my total being the way this place can.
As I was thinking of what to write in this post I came to a closed highway with that glorious color orange piled in my way and arrows telling me to “go that way!”
I was tired from driving and just wanted to get there. I had no choice, go back or follow the less traveled road.
It’s was a joy! I found a trail to hike, a gallery not previously known and many garden filled yards I may have never seen.
As I traveled on I thought a lot about writing of the act of taking a different route just to see what is in existence.
Then I thought about life and how we can get stuck on a path for many of life’s reasons. I’ve felt stuck myself for several years. Imagine how good it can feel to simply turn a different direction to see what can happen.
I’ve not written a post here for too long. I let life get in my way. I want to shrug off that grime and step out of the shell I’ve put myself in, let my whole being live.
As I came back to the joy of writing here I realized I need to relearn the technical aspect. I will add photos when I again figure out how.
Happy detours!!!
